Christian Formation

Christian Formation is another term for Christian Education – providing opportunities to discuss, explore and live out our faith.  We believe no single person possesses the only correct interpretation of scripture. Our faith is informed by our Episcopalian reliance on the “Three-Legged Stool” of Scripture, Tradition, and Reason.  Following are some of the opportunities for people of all ages to learn and grow together at Calvary.

Journey in Christian Living (Adult Forum)

Sunday mornings 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. in the library of Weber Hall.  This coming Sunday, April 22, our adult class, Journey in Christian Living, will be meeting with Pastor Jane to discuss a possible new curriculum for the class.  Please feel free to join us.  Coffee and tea are available in Weber Hall.

In the Spirit of the Circle (Inter-generational Gathering)

This year we are offering an inter-generational program on alternating Sunday afternoons (see Schedule for dates).  In the Spirit of the Circle is a Native American/Episcopal curriculum designed to help both native and non-native communities better understand our tangled history, and how at times it mirrors the stories of Holy Scripture.  In March of 2018 a group from Calvary made a pilgrimage to Carlisle, PA to offer prayer at the cemetery where Native children, who died while students at Carlisle Indian Boarding School, are buried.  Our class is led by a parishioner who is a member of Virginia's Chickahominy Tribe.  By inter-generational, we mean that children are welcome, as they are in Native American gatherings.  They especially enjoy the music, and we have separate activities for them if they wish to leave the circle. New folks are welcome to join the circle at any time.   Join us for In the Spirit of the Circle as we continue to learn about our native roots.

Vacation Bible School

Each summer Calvary joins Front Royal Presbyterian Church to provide a Vacation Bible School not only for our children, but the wider community as well.  The two churches alternate hosting, and this year VBS will be held at Front Royal Presbyterian at a date to be determined.  VBS is open to all children age 4 – 10.  Older youth are encouraged to serve as helpers and guides.
