Calvary Episcopal Church is very excited to announce the calling of our new Rector - The Reverend Valerie J. Hayes!  Valerie comes to Calvary from the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, VA where she served for five years, most recently as Senior Associate Rector.  Valerie will officially join Calvary on November 1, 2018

Valerie has an outstanding ability to provide impactful pastoral care, and to initiate and steward robust youth programs.  At Holy Comforter, she had a wide variety of responsibilities including: presiding regularly at worship services; providing leadership during 21 months of interim leadership as the parish called a new rector; developing and providing guidance to care ministries including the healing team and the addiction and recovery care ministry; and leading Adult Christian Formation. Prior to her work at Holy Comforter, Valerie served for four years as a hospital chaplain at the Clinical Research Center at the National Institutes of Health.

We believe that Reverend Hayes is a person who very much aligns with the congregation's vision for Calvary's future and who, in turn, sees Calvary Episcopal Church as her next calling. Valerie is passionate about sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. She is dedicated to life-long Christian spiritual formation that fosters the deepening of faith so that one's faith and practices are relevant to every-day life. She is a gifted preacher.

Valerie and her husband Jim, a professor of business at George Mason University, look forward to life in Front Royal. Their children (a blended family of three boys and one girl) are young adults who are almost "launched." Valerie and Jim look forward to being involved in the life of our community. They both love the outdoors, and enjoy hiking, gardening and other outside activities. They feel that Front Royal is a great fit.
